What is Google Adsense ?

Google Adsense is a medium to make money from your web site. Adsense helps thousands of webmasters and web site owners to make good earnings by publishing relevant ads provided by Google Inc.

How it Works ?

Adsense is a contextual type advertising method ie Adsense displays ads related to the content on your web page. For eg if your site is dealing with travel and tourism then Adsense will display ads related to that topic (if available) like advertisement about hotels, resorts, travel agents or tour operators. This helps to create more conversion rate compared to other type of ad methods.

How to Signup ?

Signing up with Adsense is very easy. It is completely free and there is not too many rules or restrictions to sign up.

Only thing is your site should comply with Google's terms and conditions like

Your site should not contain adult materials, violent content, copyrighted materials, contents related to sales of alcohol, drugs, weapons and should not deal with any illegal activities.

If you have already a Gmail account then you can use the same id for adsense too. Go to the Adsense main page and submit your basic details to start the signup process.

Google Adsense team will review your site in few days and approve it if it meets their guidelines.

Getting Started

Once if it is approved you can login to Adsense control panel using your username and password. Adsense control panel shows details about your earnings, payments, account details and ad management options.

Types of Ads

Many different types of ads available with Adsense like Adsense for Content, Search, Feeds and Mobile Devices.

Creating a New Ad

If you are looking for the normal ads for your site then go to Adsense Setup tab in the Control Panel and click on Adsense for Content link.

In this you can create two types of Ads - Ad Unit and Link Unit : Ad Unit is the general banner type ad and link unit is text links ad.

While creating a new Ad you can specify many details like Font,Format, Color, Corner Style etc.

Going Online with Adsense

Once created Google Adsense will display a small piece of code. You have to copy and paste this code in your web site. It will take around 10 minutes for the new ad to appear online.

If your site is very new or if the page doesnt have much content then Adsense may display Public Service Ads. In that case you have to add more keyword rich content or wait for few days to the Adsense bot to crawl your page.
