Basically hosting can be divided into five. Depends on your requirements you have to select a suitable plan which fit into your budget and meet your requirements.

Free Hosting : In this you will get hosting for Free but you cannot rely on these type of hosting as the hosting company will put their advertisement on your site or there will be some limitations on the usage.

Shared Hosting : In this the hosting company will divide a single server in to multiple customers (normally more than 100). So you will be sharing CPU, Memory and other server resources with many other customers. For most of the startup sites this is the ideal option.

Reseller Hosting : This is for reselling the hosting. You can take a reseller account and sell the hosting space to your clients. This will be preloaded with reselling softwares and control panels so that you can easily create, delete and manage customer accounts.

VPS Hosting : Virtual Private Hosting is similar to shared hosting but the hosting provider will divide the server only by less number of customers (normally less than 10). So each customer will get more server resources compared to Shared Hosting.

Dedicated Hosting : This is the top end web hosting as the hosting provider will make an entire server online for you. Dedicated server is very costly compared to other hosting plans but you will get all freedom to change your server parameters, reboot any time and customize the server as per your requirements.

Now the latest trend is Cloud Hosting. In this your site will be hosted in a could computing environment with thousands of servers. You have to pay for only the CPU cycles, Memory and bandwidth you use.

Hosting Location : US or India

Many Indian hosting companies gives customers option to host either in India or US and major US hosting companies will give option to host in US or sometimes in UK.

Selecting US would be ideal if you plan to target customers from many parts of the world. US data centers provide more bandwidth and robust hosting.

But if majority of your visitors are from India then go for an Indian server which will give faster response when accessed from India.
