RIM BlackBerry Torch 9800 and BlackBerry OS 6

Research in Motion introduced a new touch screen sliding keyboad smartphone named BlackBerry Torch 9800 aimed to regain its lost market share in smartphone market in a joint press event with AT&T in New York.

BlackBerry Torch 9800  is a 3.2 inch, 480×360 pixels capacitive touch screen display weighs 5.7 oz and almost same size like Motorola Droid X and Apple iPhone.

The new BlackBerry Torch 9800 smartphone comes with a slide-out vertical keyboard, 5 mega pixel camera, Wi-Fi, High Speed internet with 3G (HSPA 3.6) , 4GB built in storage and microSD support of 4GB and Marvel 624 Hz ARM-based processor.

Another major change in Torch 9800 is the new browser which supports HTML 5 and many new features.

BlackBerry OS 6 also showcased in the event which is an update of the popular BlackBerry OS which is currently dominating the Mobile Operating System market.

BlackBerry 6 OS adds a Social Feeds app to aggregate social networking accounts and RSS feeds, including BlackBerry Messenger, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, AOL Instant Messenger, Google Talk, Windows Live Messenger, and Yahoo Messenger.

The Torch will go on sale in the United States on August 12 for $199.99 with a two-year contract – about the same price as an iPhone.
