Aakash is a low cost Tablet PC device is an initiative by Govt of India, designed by Indian Institute of Technology and manufactured by UK based company Datawind from its Hyderabad plant.

Aakash Tablet (previously Sakshat) comes with a 7 inch resistive touch screen display, 800×480 pixels resolution, 256MB RAM, 2GB internal storage, up to 32GB external memory support, GPRS, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g, up to 3 hours battery backup etc

It runs on Google Android platform version 2.2 Froyo, and support document formats like DOC, DOCX, PPT, PPTX, XLS, XLSX, ODT, ODP, PDF viewer, text editor, audio out, 266 MHz processor and HD video accelerator etc

Aakash Tablet Price : Commercial version is expected by end of November under the brand name UbiSlate 7 with a retails price of Rs 3,000/- including taxes and warranty.

This ultra low cost tablet is expected to be a game changer in India and World tablet PC market because most of the high end devices from Apple, Samsung, Motorola, RIM are priced at Rs 30,000 to 35,000 range.

Last week Amazon also launched a low cost tablet device Amazon Kindle Fire priced at $199 (Rs 9,500) and hopefully these developments in the Tablet PC industry will force major manufacturers to cut down their prices and eventually the end users will be benefited. There are many tablets available in India now with price ranging from Rs 10,000 to Rs 20,000 including recently launched Reliance Tab.

Sakshat Tablet : Linux Device Price and Specs

Sakshat Tablet is a low cost tablet device running on linux platform designed in India which is dubbed as world’s cheapest tablet.

As per the latest reports, first lot of 10,000 Sakshat tablet will be delivered to IIT rajasthan students.

Sakshat Tablet is designed by IIT and IIMsc and manufactured by HCL Technologies.

It is expected to come with 7 inch touchscreen running on linux, with 2GB RAM and 32GB hard disc, Wi-Fi, USB, Bluetooth etc
